About

Hussein El Hajj Hassan

A Lebanese-Canadian journalist, author, and researcher writing across politics, memory, displacement, identity, and the search for peace in fractured societies.

Hussein El Hajj Hassan is a Lebanese-Canadian journalist, author, and researcher whose work examines Middle Eastern politics, ideological conflict, displacement, memory, identity, and the moral questions that emerge in societies shaped by violence and uncertainty.

Originally from Lebanon and now based in Canada, Hussein writes across Arabic and English. His work brings together political analysis, personal experience, public commentary, and a sustained commitment to dialogue. Across journalism and research, he is interested in how power is justified, how ideology becomes embedded in public life, and how communities remember conflict long after the immediate violence has ended.

His journalism and commentary have appeared in platforms including Open Canada, An-Nahar, Iran International, The Free Press, Toronto Sun, and others. His writing moves between regional politics and intimate human experience, with particular attention to Lebanon, Israel, sovereignty, exile, community, integration, and the possibilities for peace beyond inherited fear.

Hussein is the author of Samia: A Story of Survival, Love, and Legacy, a deeply personal tribute to motherhood, grief, resilience, and the enduring power of love. He is also the author of Welcome Home: A Newcomer’s Essential Guide to Life in Ontario, a practical and compassionate guide for newcomers building confidence, belonging, and everyday stability in Canada.

His current and forthcoming work continues to explore the relationship between truth, responsibility, civic imagination, and peacebuilding. He is available for writing, interviews, public commentary, research collaboration, speaking opportunities, and projects connected to dialogue, integration, community, and Middle Eastern politics.
